Sinclair Oil Corporation - Gas and Oil Company History
Founded by Harry F. Sinclair in 1916, Sinclair Oil Corporation is an American petroleum company. They survived the Great Depression by selling their oil pipeline subsidiary to Standard Oil and issuing common stock. This influx of cash allowed Sinclair to save other gas companies and expand their operations. Sinclair sponsored a dinosaur exhibit at the Chicago World's Fair of 1933-34 that included a 2-ton brontosaurus model, and sponsored Dinoland exhibit at the New York World's Fair of 1964-65. The popularity of the exhibits inspired Sinclair Dino promotional items and Sinclair dinosaur advertisements, still in use today in the Sinclair Dino logo.
