John Deere Tractor - Company History

John Deere is a brand name of Deere & Company, an American agriculture, forestry and construction engine manufacturer. Born in Vermont, John Deere (1804-1886) was an accomplished blacksmith. Relocating to Grand Detour, Illinois in 1836 Deere setup shop as a general repairman and small tool manufacturer. A year later he pioneered the cast-steel plow which worked more efficiently for the rich Midwestern soil in comparison to the iron and wooden plow in previous use that frequently needed cleaning to remove the dirt build up. His steel plow became known as "The Plow that Broke the Plains." Traditional business practice involved making a product when ordered, but Deere realized it was more efficient and easier to sell his plows if he produced them in quantity and then put them up for sale. In 1848 John Deere relocated to Moline, Illinois gaining access to the Mississippi River and the railroad and allowing business expansion. In 1853 his son Charles Deere (1836-1907) joined the company. By 1855 the Deere factory sold more than 10,000 plows. The business was incorporated in 1868 as Deere & Company. Competition from the new International Harvester Company in the early 1900s led the Deere company to expand their offerings to include a gasoline tractor. This tractor production would define John Deere in the 20th century. Deere & Company is the largest agriculture machinery company in the world as of 2014.

These pumps are identical in appearance and 98% of all parts in 515 and 517 are interchangeable in 519. Five or ten gallon bowls. They bear Underwriters' label. Have speed and ease of operation; fifteen full stokes pumping 10 gallons. Pumping unit can be removed in 15 minutes by one man and only one-half the divided housing need be removed for servicing. Doors only in base casting are removed for installation.

Double cylinder, piston type, employing the famous Wayne plunger. Plunger actuated by cut steel racks engaging driving gear which is directly connected to hand lever.
