Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

The American Old West or Wild West comprises the history, geography, peoples, lore, and cultural expression of life in the Western United States (i.e., anywhere west of the Mississippi River), most often referring to the period of the latter half of the 19th century, between the American Civil War and the end of the century. More encompassing and more accurate, however, is the inclusion of the entire 19th century.

Through treaties with foreign nations and native peoples, political compromise, technological innovation, military conquest, establishment of law and order, and the great migrations of foreigners, the United States expanded from coast to coast, fulfilling its belief in Manifest Destiny. In securing and managing the West, the federal government greatly expanded its powers, as the nation grew from an agrarian society to an industrialized nation. First promoting settlement and exploitation of the land, by the end of the 19th century the federal government became a steward of the remaining open spaces. As the American Old West passed into history, the myths of the West took firm hold in the imagination of Americans and foreigners alike.

Gate: 48"T X 76 1/2"W X 1 1/2" Thick. Features: 1 1/4" solid iron frame with 1/2" X 1 1/2" vertical bars and solid cedar vertical planks - Hand cut and anvil hammered, 1/4" thick, long horn steer decorative front panel - Hand forged iron bar latch - Heavy duty hinges.

Hardware Set: 1"T X 7 1/2"W X 1"D (latch), 5"T X 3"W X 1"D (anchor post) Features: Hand forged and anvil hammered solid iron flip down style bar latch and "L" shaped slide anchor post - Anchor post is a 1/2" thick solid iron rod housed in a heavy walled cylinder and is used to anchor either one or both doors - Patina finish is applied at over 1000ÂºF available in all colors, shown here as P-500 (gate frame and hardware) and P-514 (longhorn panel).

Adjustable Tension, Roller Style Door Latch: This ensures that your door or gate will not open in windy conditions even when the lock is not set. The roller pressure to strike plate can be adjusted to allow the push and pull resistance to be to your personal choice.

Dead Bolt: This special dead bolt lock is built for our 3" to 7" thick doors. It is high strength tungsten steel and is almost impossible to breech allowing for the best security available. You may order single cylinder (thumb turn interior) or double cylinder (keyed both sides).

Mortise Lock Heavy Duty: This special heavy duty mortise lock is produced by one of the worlds top lock manufacturers specially for our extra thick solid wood doors. This style of lock requires a large mortised pocket to allow for the steel lock mechanism to fit inside the door edge. Also the mounting plates and locking bolt are larger than that of a standard dead bolt. This type of lock allows for additional strength and security. It is high strength tungsten steel and is almost impossible to breech allowing for the best security available.
