Old tin litho Fearless Fosdick sign for Wildroot Cream-Oil hair tonic used by men during the postwar era. The advertisements were found throughout American barbershops in the late 1940s to mid-1950s. Wildroot Charlie and the popular Wildroot jingle was instantly familiar to 1950s radio listeners, performed by many including Nat King Cole, and featured on a variety of radio programs. Fearless Fosdick was Al Capp's comic-strip character featured within the Li'l Abner (1934-77) comic-strip. Fearless Fosdick was a parody of Chester Gould's Dick Tracy character, and became a comic-strip within a comic-strip and continued with much success, even running as a short-run television show in the 1950s. Fosdick's bad judgment and notorious bad aim was the hilarity behind the crime story.
