Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

The term oak can be used as part of the common name of any of about 400 species of trees and shrubs in the genus Quercus (pronounced /ˈkwɜrkəs/ Latin "oak tree"), which are listed in the List of Quercus species, and some related genera, notably Lithocarpus. The genus is native to the northern hemisphere, and includes deciduous and evergreen species extending from cold latitudes to tropical Asia and the Americas.

Oaks have spirally arranged leaves, with a lobed margin in many species; some have serrated leaves or entire leaves with a smooth margin. The flowers are catkins, produced in spring. The fruit is a nut called an acorn, borne in a cup-like structure known as a cupule; each acorn contains one seed (rarely two or three) and takes 6"18 months to mature, depending on species.

Features solid iron construction, standard candelabras, patina finish, iron wrapped joints and genuine rawhide shades. UL listed.

Main Steel Structure: Hand forged, hammer struck to shape using 1/2" solid steel. Main wire trace is 3/4" heavy walled structural steel. Main wire hide cap and mount is hand forged steel with chain through that allows for 900 pound test chain to mount securely directly to your structural beam. The wire hide is designed to mount any standard electrical light receptacle includes two decorative mounting screws. This type of cap also allows for the use of a (customer supplied) chandelier remote winch that allows you to remotely raise and lower your chandelier for service and maintenance.

Genuine Raw Hide Light Diffuser Is Removable, Simply Turn decrotive knob. The hand forged steel frame is made from 1/4'' thick round patina finished steel. Each section of genuine rawhide is selected from the best tanned hides available in America. We use only hides that are properly tanned by one of America's best know tanneries established 1864. Each piece is selected for it's translucence as well as grain compatibility. Each diffuser panel is meticulously hand punched to accept the leather lacing used to attach each panel to the hand forged steel frame. It is then hand laced together with the longest lengths of leather possible, producing the least amount of knots. Each panel is also laced in a manor allowing for temperature changes as well as air moisture content. A simple annual spray on leather treatment is recommended.

Patina Finish As Shown: Various Colors Of Hand Applyed Iron Oxide Patinas. Our beautiful patina finishes are hand applied using a special patented process where oxides are bonded into the metal at over 1000 degrees. This permanent finish beautifies with age. S.A.F. does not paint or faux finish any of our iron creations. Paint fades, chips and cracks over time and patinas last forever. No Drop Forged Casted Copies. Colorized Carving. You can order any carving colorized. In order to achieve a colorized carving, multiple stain colors are used. The stains are hand applied and blended with an artistic eye to achieve an enhanced natural appearance.

All Steel Is Coal Fired, Hammered By Master Blacksmiths The Old Fashioned Way And Patina Finished. At Scottsdale Art Factory, we take pride in our traditional, superior quality workmanship and craft our products from only the finest steel. Our master blacksmiths have been classically trained, and utilize old world techniques such as coal firing, anvil hammering and hand forging to create the finest handcrafted hardware available anywhere. All of our steel work is hand patina finished by heat applying iron oxides to achieve a natural patina finish that will stand the test of time.

Nothing is Drop Forged. We create works The Old Fashioned Way using solid hand forged steel, (drop forging is a poor quality, casted copy of a hand forged work of art). Nothing is wrought iron; wrought iron is simply a softer and less sturdy form of metal that cannot compare to stronger hand forged low carbon steel.

Each item is finished to be virtually maintenance free and to age with grace. All steel parts are hand patina finished the old fashioned way by iron oxide hand applied with high temperature heat. Our patina finishes are water based and earth friendly. You may order any single color or texture finish at no extra charge.
