Historical Origin And Design Inspiration

The frontier! There is no word in the English language more stirring, more intimate, or more beloved. It has in it all the elan of the old French phrase, En avant! It carries all of the old Saxon command, Forward!! It means all that America ever meant. It means the old hope of a real personal liberty, and yet a real human advance in character and achievement. To a genuine American it is the dearest word in all the world.

What is, or was, the frontier? Where was it? Under what stars did it lie? Because, as the vague Iliads of ancient heroes or the nebulous records of the savage gentlemen of the Middle Ages make small specific impingement on our consciousness today, so also even now begin the tales of our own old frontier to assume a haziness, an unreality, which makes them seem less history than folklore. Now the truth is that the American frontier of history has many a local habitation and many a name. And this is why it lies somewhat indefinite under the blue haze of the years, all the more alluring for its lack of definition, like some old mountain range, the softer and more beautiful for its own shadows.

Buckskin Frank Leslie A western gunfighter, Indian Scout and prospector, Leslie was best known for having killed Billy Claibourne, one of the infamous Clanton Gang, who feuded with the Earps in Tombstone , Arizona. Born in Nashville, Tennessee, Leslie migrated west somewhere along the line and was working as a scout for the U.S. Army in Texas, Oklahoma and the Dakotas during the 1870"â„¢s. By the time he arrived in Tombstone in1880, the town was teeming with outlaws and other shiftless characters as the Earps were attempting to tame the lawless settlement. Leslie, though standing just 5 feet 7 inches and weighing 135 pounds, had already earned a reputation as a gunfighter. He earned the moniker of "Buckskin Frank" because of the buckskin fringed jacket that he wore all of the time.

This Is Not Your Ordinary Log Furnishing

This Lodge Style Furniture Is Built From Solid Cedar Beams that have been fully cured by natural desert air drying. All timber is cured for at least two years to less than 3% prior to being tenon joined, pegged and doweled to create a solid structure. This solid structure would be likened to the way a well built wooden train trestle or old 19th century barn would be built. Then all timbers are hand carved by our master carvers to appear as logs.

This Log Style Furnishing Will Never Warp, Bow Or Shake and Is Built To Stand The Test Of Time

Let's Compare

Most log furnishings are built with semi cured lumber taken directly from the forest. Most of these furnishings are not structural even though it would lead one to believe they were at first blush. Most makers of natural log pool tables ask that you put supports from under side to floor to support the weight of the slate or they some times use a 1/2' slate bed to keep the weight down.
The reason is usually the joinery. Plus these natural logs will usually shrink from 20% to 35% more once they are in the environment of your home. This allows the slip joints to shrink and almost always bow and twist. Also if the weight of your slate playing bed were also being supported by these semi cured logs it would add additional bowing and warping

This of course makes most of these natural log furnishings, that appear like quality, eventual firewood.
